Have you ever wondered why a particular person gets everything that he or she wants and you don’t? Have you ever asked the question; “What does he or she havestockxpertcom_persuasion that I don’t?’ Well, if this seems familiar then perhaps you need to increase your influencing skills! To be able to persuade others is not as difficult as it may sometimes seem. To tap into your hidden potential all that is required is a little bit of commitment to go that extra mile.

If you have a desire to improve your influencing skills, perhaps for a great business idea or a way to improve the product, you need to put it forward in such a way that everyone will be convinced about it. Here are 4 things that can help to improve your ability to influence others.

1. The Power of Externalisation

When you are putting forth an idea make sure that you have a clear understanding of the situation. Suppose you are thinking about a problem that has hampered the production, you should have clear understanding about the problem and you should be convinced that the solution you are offering will be an effective tool to resolve the problem. Only then can you persuade the management and your team to work on your idea.

So try and get in the habit of using a portion of your time to reflect upon and document your thoughts. There has been much research done with regards to the power of downloading our internal thoughts and clutter on to paper. A simple tool and technique, which I find helpful, is the mind map. I will have to say, the mind map has saved my bacon on several occasions just because I took the time to reflect and put my thoughts to paper.

2. Don’t Waffle

When you are trying to develop your influencing skills, you will have to learn to be concise! Use just enough words to explain the idea. It should be long enough to be able to explain it in totality and spark the other party’s interest, without going too far and self sabotaging. It is too easy to continue to expand on things and try and come at your points from many different ways, and some of us have expressive personalities that struggle to keep things concise, but the key is that most people respond far better to concise communication.

3. Perception is Key

How you present your idea or proposal makes all the difference. The way you speak will influence your audience. One thing that can be useful is to study the style of the other party’s communication. Is it detailed or bottom lined, are they more assertive or introverted when they communicate and are they more people or task orientated? Watch out for those signs and then mirror their style. With assertive and introverted you don’t mirror, in fact you use normal questioning techniques in both of these styles to facilitate the discussion. This allows you to make your points at appropriate moments.

4. Looking for The Hidden Opportunities

Choosing correct timing is of the most importance. When you are looking to persuade a group of people, they have to be in the correct frame of mind to listen to you. So learning to choose correct timing is a vital skill worth acquiring. Once you have your audience’s undivided attention you can then put forth your idea.

It is also useful to note that some subjects need the right environment and space for discussion, so be sensitive to the moment. Reading the situation can help you to decide whether it is the appropriate time and place. On the other hand sometimes there is no appropriate moment, so the balance to this thought is don’t be too backward in coming forward either.
